GIS for the iPhone is here
Recently I have been looking to get my hands on a good GIS app for the iPhone that would not only allow you to import and export data layers in ESRI shapefile format but also have a good GPS feature. I was in need of an application for a mobile phone what would be great for doing field work, collecting accurate data points in the field using GPS. Finally, its here. Geogmetry has produced an application called iGIS that is available from the Apple App Store for $20. Its worth the $20 especially when you think about how expensive it is to purchase mobile GPS equipment or a mobile pc tablet computer. This app allows you to import ESRI shapefiles, overlay it on Google maps and collect and edit data using a GPS feature. Below here I pasted a link to the app. Check it out.

Sounds like a great app for displaying imported layers. But to make it truly useful I think the ability to add and update features in the imported layers is a must. If you can only add comments (in a separate layer), that means you then have to go back to your desktop GIS app and make those updates again.
I’d also love to see this app ported to Android.
